When it rains, it pours...

right into our basement! I came downstairs tonight to send off some email and discovered wet spots in the carpet. Sure enough, the drain outside our walkout door was blocked and the water from the melting snow combined with the rain and flowed on into the basement. It's a squishy mess right now. I'm waiting for Ray to get back from Meijer with a wet vac so we can start cleaning up. Since we've been studying those verses about being thankful in all things and not being anxious for anything, I'm working on a list...
  1. I'm thankful I had to send the article to The Old Schoolhouse, otherwise I would not have come down here until tomorrow morning, when the water would probably have reached completely across the basement, rather than just the 5 feet around the door.
  2. I'm thankful that all our schoolbooks, photo albums, and computer stuff are at the opposite end of the basement from the door.
  3. I'm thankful that we have enough room to move the things away from the door and still not feel too crowded. If this gets resolved tonight, we'll have room to do school tomorrow, although I may be too tired.
  4. I'm thankful that Meijer is open 24 hours.
  5. I'm thankful that we aren't having company this weekend like I thought, so I don't have to clean tomorrow if I am still dealing with this.
  6. I'm thankful that Ray was here and the kids are sleeping. Sometimes little hands don't make light work!
  7. I'm thankful that Ray worked for Service Master in high school and college-he knows how to do water extraction.
  8. Even with all the issues we are dealing with in this house, I'm still so very thankful for it.
