Crew Review: Beehive Reader

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then perhaps I should just include this image and not write any more!  The new Beehive Readers from All About Learning, publishers of All About Spelling, are visually appealing while providing phonetically based practice in reading with high interest stories.

This is just one page out of 160, with ten different stories.  Each story has a limited amount of text on each page and is illustrated with sometimes comical illustrations.

How we used this:  Right now, we aren’t.  My fluent reader is beyond this and my 5 year old isn’t quite here yet.  I will be using this with her as we begin All About Spelling level 1 next year.  They have created this with 100%  correlation to level 1, providing instructions in the spelling program as to when the child should be reading the stories.    She is trying to sound out the words in the early stories, so she is motivated to practice her reading.

Many of the readers I have are inexpensive paperbacks.  This hardbound book has been published on quality paper with exquisite illustrations.  While it may be a little on the expensive side for some budgets at $19.95, it is 160 pages long with 10 short stories.  I will be investing in more of these as they are published.  Book 2 is due out later this spring.

Disclaimer:  I received a copy of Beehive Reader 1 in order to review it.  The opinion contained in this review is my own.  I did not receive any other compensation.
