Priceless

The warm weather wooed me outside this morning when I should have been supervising the weekly housecleaning. Rather than changing sheets and scrubbing toilets, we loaded up the stroller with water and bananas and walked 2 miles to the library, with the two older kids riding their bikes. This taught me two things: 1. I definitely want to buy a bike with a trailer. 2. I can walk into town if I have to. It was a great walk, with a nice spring breeze blowing. It's now in the 70s, but the temps were perfect when we set out. Normally I would wait for the car for a library trip, but they were having a book sale this morning--$4 for a bag of books. Now, was it worth a 4 mile round trip walk for a $4 bag of books? I asked myself that question all the way there. Will I find some treasures or will this be a bust? Most of what I found will probably end up back at the library as a donation after the kids have finished them. But I did find one treasure…Betsy's Winterhouse, by Carolyn Haywood. Maggie is reading through these right now. They are hard to find in the old, hardback editions, at least around here. I'm excited to have found this one. I also bought a second copy of Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm. I have an old edition that doesn't come down for the children to read. Now they can read this classic without me worrying about my special edition being harmed.

Our walk also included a stop at the general store (yes, we have one) and the post office. I love our small town, but I wish more of the store fronts on Main Street were filled. What business can I start? J
