As I grew up, rocks had an enormous influence on my life. My dad, to this day, has never met a rock he didn't like. Between attempting to make a hobby into a business and picking up the pieces when the business didn't succeed, he never gave up on rocks. Could his name have anything to do with it? Peter. Yep...the Greek word Petra, which means rock.
And yet, there is another Rock who is and was behind all the circumstances. The One who promises to hide me in the cleft when I need protection. The firm foundation on which we are to build our home. The Rock who does not change when the circumstances become stormy. Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior, held me close and kept my faith during times I thought I would not make it.
Although rocks no longer occupy the center and edges of my life, I still lean on the Rock. And I appreciate the love of God's creation that my father's love of rocks has instilled in me.
